The City of Mount Gambier is currently in the process of implementing a major Mid-City redevelopment which includes the building of a brand new Library and Community Centre and major upgrades of the Riddoch Art Gallery and Cultural Precinct.

The Mount Gambier Public Library and Community Centre will serve the entire community through its vast resources and programs on offer. The centre will be a state of the art building and include a local history room, learning lounge, group room, meeting room, a multipurpose room which can be divided in two, an activity room, study rooms and a parenting room. The centre will also have a cafe where people can meet or relax with a coffee. This will allow a multitude of groups and individuals to meet, learn, research and conduct business in the centre.

The City Centre Redevelopment also includes upgrades to the Civic Centre, Riddoch Art Gallery and Town Hall. Works to be done include the demolition of the old council building on the corner of Bay Road and Commercial Street to extend the Cave Garden and a full redevelopment of the existing Riddoch Art Gallery (ground floor and first floor). The Riddoch Art Gallery will get a substantially enhanced new façade and new Western entry, incorporating the coffee shop, sales area and improved loading/unloading areas.

The cost of the project is approximatelly $15M.
